A new earthquake hits Ethiopia

An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck an area located 25 kilometers northeast of the city of Awash in Ethiopia, this morning, according to the US Geological Survey.

The earthquake occurred at 03:53 AM Addis Ababa time, at latitude 9.199 degrees north and longitude 40.236 degrees east, and at a depth of 10 kilometers below the surface of the earth.

There have been no reports so far of material damage or human casualties as a result of the earthquake.

It is noteworthy that on January 4, an earthquake measuring 5.8 degrees struck Ethiopia, according to what was reported by the German Center for Geoscience Research.

The center said that the earthquake occurred 142 kilometers east of Addis Ababa, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The earthquake follows a series of less severe earthquakes that have rocked Ethiopia in the past few days.

The same area was hit by a 5.5-magnitude earthquake on Friday, and a series of less powerful earthquakes exceeding thirty over the week preceding this date.
