7 responsibilities for parents to enable children in distance learning

The Ministry of Education, within the “Parents’ Guide to Distance Learning” for the third semester, identified seven main responsibilities that fall on the family, stressing that the success of the learning experience from home is linked to a real and effective partnership between the school and parents, which is translated into clear daily practices that support the continuity of academic achievement.
Daily commitment and discipline
At the forefront of these responsibilities, the guide, the details of which were reviewed by Emirates Today, stressed the importance of helping children adhere to the daily school schedule, by organizing time at home, and avoiding overlapping of study times with other family activities, in order to ensure a stable and organized educational environment.
Interaction within classes
He also called on parents to encourage children to interact positively during virtual classes, by asking questions and sharing ideas, which contributes to building the personality of the interactive student, and takes him out of the framework of passive reception to active participation in the learning process.
Daily reading…a basic pillar
The guide stressed the importance of allocating time for daily reading, especially for students in the early stages, as it is a pivotal tool for developing linguistic and cognitive skills and maintaining continuity of learning beyond the confines of the classroom.
Educational dialogue at home
He recommended the necessity of talking daily with children about what they have learned, because of its role in consolidating understanding, revealing weak points, enhancing the student’s sense of the importance of what he is learning, and his family’s interest in his academic achievement.
Encouraging creativity and activities
The guide linked distance learning and developing students’ creative aspects, by encouraging them to practice activities such as drawing, writing, building, and storytelling, reflecting that the role of the family is not limited to academic support, but rather extends to the comprehensive development of the student’s personality.
Boost self-confidence
He stressed the importance of continuous appreciation for children’s efforts, as positive encouragement is a crucial element in building self-confidence, especially in a distance learning environment in which students may face some psychological challenges or feel isolated.
Guidance for working families
In a related context, the guide devoted a section to guide working parents, emphasizing the need to be familiar with the learning model and academic schedule, including class times, assignment submission, and evaluations, to ensure effective follow-up despite work pressures.
A fixed daily routine
He called for establishing a fixed daily routine that suits the family’s circumstances, while taking advantage of the morning period – if possible – to review lessons with the children before heading to work, as an opportunity to enhance advance preparation.
Early coordination
He also urged early coordination with the school to obtain activities and tasks in advance, allowing good planning for their implementation, in addition to distributing follow-up responsibilities within the family, which reduces the burden and enhances family integration in supporting learning.
Communication channels
The guide stressed the importance of knowing the official communication channels with the school and the available support times, to ensure a quick response to any inquiries, as well as benefiting from the flexible arrangements that schools may provide, such as making recorded classes available or reviewing educational materials after working hours.
True partnership and quality learning
This trend reflects the Ministry of Education’s keenness to transform the family’s role from a formal follow-up to a major partner in the educational process, through clear responsibilities that ensure a supportive learning environment and achieve the best educational outcomes under the distance learning system.
