Russia accuses America of threatening the stability of global energy markets.. What is the story?

Russia on Saturday accused the United States of threatening stability by imposing new sanctions on the Russian energy sector.
On Friday, Britain imposed new sanctions on the Russian energy sector, especially the oil company “Gazprom Neft”, in an attempt to undermine the “largest source of financing” the war in Ukraine, just days before President Joe Biden leaves office.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Washington is trying, on the eve of the end of Biden’s “unglorious reign in power… to cause at least some damage to the Russian economy, even at the expense of destabilizing global markets.”
The ministry added, “Of course, Washington’s hostile actions will not go unanswered.”

US Department of Treasury

Regarding the sanctions imposed on Friday, the US Treasury Department announced that they include more than 180 ships in addition to the two large Russian oil companies, “Gazprom Neft” and “Sorgutneftegaz.”
White House Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economic Affairs Dalip Singh said these sanctions are the “most significant” to date against the Russian energy sector, “the main source of revenue for President Vladimir Putin’s war against Ukraine.”

European countries

For its part, the Russian Foreign Ministry accused the United States on Saturday of seeking to “obstruct any bilateral economic relations, including with American companies, as much as possible, or even make them impossible.”
The ministry added in its statement that European countries “will be forced to resort to more expensive and unreliable American supplies.”
