South Korean President Yoon Suk-yul will not attend the first hearing in his impeachment trial, which begins tomorrow, Tuesday, at the headquarters of the Constitutional Court, one of his lawyers announced, citing concerns related to “security.”
“Concerns have arisen regarding security and possible accidents, so the president will not be able to attend the trial on January 14,” Yoon Kab-kyun said in a statement.

Failed coup attempt
Parliament impeached Yoon Suk-yeol for trying to impose martial law at the beginning of December, in a coup that was quickly thwarted by lawmakers.
