On a French initiative…movements to deploy Western forces in Ukraine
Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, said that he held further discussions with French President, Emmanuel Macron, about the possibility of deploying Western forces in Ukraine to protect any peace agreement that ends the nearly three-year war with Russia.
Zelensky’s statements came before an official visit to Kiev by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius on Tuesday.
Pistorius arrived in Kiev on an unannounced visit after meeting his counterparts from France, the United Kingdom, Italy and Poland in Warsaw yesterday, Monday.

French President
Macron sparked protests from other leaders, after statements he made almost a year ago in which he raised the possibility of deploying Western forces in Ukraine.
Zelensky said that Ukraine needs security guarantees to support any peace agreement, an issue he said, late Monday, that he had discussed with the French president.
Zelensky added, “As one of these guarantees, we discussed the French initiative to deploy military forces in Ukraine, and studied the practical steps for its implementation, possible expansion and participation of other countries in this process.”
