Details of the launch of the competition to revive handicrafts in Saudi fashion

The launch of the competition comes in line with the Ministry of Culture’s theme for the year 2025, the Year of Handicrafts, as the competition aims to enhance and preserve Saudi cultural identity while nurturing local talent in the field of creative design.

The “Reviving Traditional Handicrafts in Saudi Fashion” competition will provide participants with advanced knowledge about designing traditional costumes and Saudi handicrafts, and enhance technical and creative skills in design, in addition to gaining a deeper understanding of Saudi heritage and architecture.
The winning design will be announced on February 16, and displayed at the Fashion Authority exhibition at the Saudi Cup 2025 in celebration of Saudi Foundation Day.
Participants in the competition will attend a five-day workshop led by professional experts. The workshops cover four main areas, including traditional fashion design, Saudi heritage and architecture, fashion handicrafts, and creative fashion skills. Participants will be invited to create distinctive fashion pieces that include elements and characteristics that reflect local traditions. And the art of design in Saudi culture.

Participants will submit their designs to be evaluated by a specialized committee of experts specializing in traditional crafts who have been selected by the Royal Institute of Traditional Arts (Worth).
The “Reviving Handicrafts in Saudi Fashion” competition seeks to enhance awareness of traditional handicrafts in the Kingdom, preserve Saudi cultural identity, and develop local talent in the field of creative design by providing training and guidance opportunities for participants throughout the duration of the competition.
