For helping Russia… US sanctions on more than 150 individuals and entities
The outgoing US government announced the imposition of sanctions on more than 150 individuals and entities accused by Washington of contributing to the war waged by Russia against Ukraine, especially from China.
A US State Department statement said: “These sanctions will further restrict Russia’s ability to wage this war and circumvent the sanctions already imposed by the United States.”
Dozens of companies outside Russia
The new sanctions target “more than 150 individuals and entities” suspected of providing services to the Russian military-industrial complex, according to the US State Department.
The ministry explained that this includes “dozens of companies located outside Russia that help the country circumvent our sanctions, especially from China.”
China is the main supplier of Russia’s needs
The US State Department considers the Asian giant to be a “major supplier” to Russia’s needs of “sensitive products used for military purposes.”
The ministry added, “China’s imports help Russia meet important needs for its defense industries.”
Trade exchanges between China and Russia reached a record level in 2024, according to official data published last Monday, in a new indication of the rapprochement between the two countries despite the economic sanctions imposed on Moscow after its invasion of Ukraine.
