I fear that Trump will weaken the “spirit of America” after assuming the presidency
US President Joe Biden has warned of the dangers to the “soul of America”, as he prepares to deliver his farewell address to the nation before Republican Donald Trump returns to the presidency.
Biden sent a message to the American people that included implicit criticism of Trump.
“I ran for president because I was convinced that the soul of America was at stake, our identity was at stake, and it still is,” the letter said.
He added: “History is in your hands, power is in your hands, the idea of the United States is in your hands. All we have to do is maintain our faith and remember who we are.”
America was in danger
Biden said the United States is stronger than it was four years ago when it was in danger after Trump’s chaotic term, the Covid pandemic and what he called “the worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War.”
Biden was sworn in just days after Trump supporters attacked the US Congress on January 6 in an attempt to prevent the certification of the election results that the American billionaire lost to his Democratic rival.
He did not mention Trump by name, but his words included a recall of previous speeches in which he said that he decided to run in the 2020 elections because the “soul” of the United States is in danger because of Trump and his supporters.
Achievements in health care and climate
Biden said he also asked the White House to release a lengthy list of what he described as his administration’s accomplishments on issues ranging from the economy to health care and climate.
He stressed that the United States has the “strongest economy in the world” and is in the process of reducing inflation, despite the fact that popular anger at the high cost of living was a major factor in the Democrats’ loss of the elections.
