Americans doubt Trump’s ability to lower prices

Concerns about everyday expenses helped bring US President-elect Donald Trump back to the White House, but with his second term quickly approaching, many American adults are skeptical about his ability to lower prices, according to a poll conducted by the Associated Press (AP) and the NORC Center. The poll showed that only 2 in 10 Americans are “strongly” or “very” confident that Trump will be able to make progress on lowering grocery, housing, and health care prices this year, while about 2 in 10 are “moderately” confident.
Belief in Republican Trump’s ability to create jobs was slightly higher, with about 3 in 10 people expressing that they were very or very confident that he would make progress on this issue in 2025.

But the poll indicates that despite comprehensive efforts to lower prices, a large portion of his supporters have little confidence in his ability to quickly ease the economic pressures that still burden many families.
The poll showed that only about 3 out of 10 people have strong confidence in Trump’s handling of the economy.
It is worth noting that Trump’s presidential election campaign in 2024 focused a lot on prices and whether Democratic President Joe Biden is the one to blame for inflation and whether Trump will be able to fix that.
