المملكة: UNRWA praises the Kingdom’s efforts to achieve a two-state solution and end the conflict in Gaza

During closed consultations at the UN Security Council, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, praised the efforts led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in cooperation with the European Commission and the League of Arab States to support the two-state solution and rebuild the Gaza Strip after the ceasefire agreement.
He said that this international alliance represents a pivotal step towards a comprehensive political transition that includes handing over UNRWA services to capable Palestinian institutions, ensuring the stability of the region and the rights of Palestinians.
He stressed the need to fully implement the ceasefire agreement and remove obstacles preventing the arrival of humanitarian aid.

Education and health care services

Lazzarini confirmed that UNRWA is working to resume education and primary health care services, and expand the scope of aid, and that the agency has prepared a comprehensive plan for 60 days, aiming to enter 500 to 600 aid trucks per day, compared to 40-50 trucks per day during the past months.
He warned against Israeli legislation that threatens to end the work of UNRWA, stressing that its implementation will lead to a deterioration in the humanitarian situation and increase the suffering of the people of Gaza, as hundreds of thousands depend on the agency’s basic services. He pointed out that this step will undermine the ceasefire agreement and disrupt reconstruction efforts.
The Commissioner-General of UNRWA called on the international community to urgently support UNRWA financially to prevent the cessation of its life-saving services, and to confront Israeli legislation that threatens the future of the Palestinians and their trust in the international community, stressing that the continuation of humanitarian work in Gaza requires joined efforts to ensure the stability of the situation and achieve peace.
