17 countries compete in the Dubai International Karate Academies Championship

Dubai, February 6, 2017 – The Dubai International Karate Academies Open Championship competitions will begin tomorrow at Shabab Al Ahli Club, which is sponsored by the Dubai Sports Council and organized by the operating partner, Mentor Sports Academy, in cooperation with the Dubai Sports Council and the Emirates Karate Federation. It will continue for two days with kata and kumite competitions.

This came during the press conference held by the tournament organizing committee yesterday, where the details and program of the competitions were reviewed, and full readiness for the launch of the event was emphasized, which turned into an international tournament after the success achieved by its first edition last year and its official adoption as part of the international tournaments.

The conference was attended by Ahmed Al Mahri, Director of Sports Talent Management at the Dubai Sports Council, Mohammed Abbas, Executive Director of the Emirates Karate Federation and Chairman of the Technical Committee, and Moataz Abdel Salam, Executive Director of Mentor Sports Academy, along with world champion Youssef Badawi, and Dr. Adnan Al-Oyouni, talent specialist at the Dubai Sports Council.

Ahmed Al Mahri stressed the support of the Dubai Sports Council for the tournament, in line with the Council’s strategy aimed at consolidating Dubai’s position as a global sports center, through its four pillars of society, events, clubs, and talents, noting that the Emirate of Dubai includes more than 3,000 sports institutions, including about 600 specialized academies that offer 51 team and individual sports.

He praised the efforts of the Emirates Karate Federation, headed by Major General (M) Nasser Abdul Razzaq Al Razouqi, President of the Emirati and Asian Federations and Vice President of the International Federation, praising its role in developing the game and achieving honorable achievements for the country.

Muhammad Abbas stressed that the sponsorship of the Dubai Sports Council contributes to the development of karate in the country, and is consistent with the federation’s strategy aimed at providing national teams with talents capable of achieving achievements in international forums.

In turn, Moataz Abdel Salam revealed the participation of 528 male and female players in various age groups, including seniors, juniors, youth, men and women, representing academies from 17 countries.

The tournament will be accompanied by the organization of an international seminar extending over two days, presented by Egyptian world champion Youssef Badawi, with the aim of exchanging experiences and raising the technical level of the participants.
