Trump intends to send humans to Mars.. What is Elon Musk’s role?

In his inauguration speech on Monday, US President Donald Trump spoke about sending humans to Mars.
Trump affirmed, saying: “We will pursue our destiny manifested in the midst of the stars, and launch American astronauts to raise the American flag on the planet Mars.”
It is noteworthy that one of Trump’s closest advisors is the American billionaire and technology tycoon Elon Musk, whose space company, SpaceX, has always aimed to transport humans to Mars, although no timetable has been set for that.

Musk, who attended the inauguration ceremony at the US Capitol, was seen smiling widely after Trump’s announcement.
Trump also said that the United States will once again consider itself a growing nation: “The United States will once again consider itself a growing nation, a nation that increases our wealth, expands our territory, builds our cities, raises our expectations, and carries our flag to beautiful new heights.”
