The Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahhak, affirmed the UAE’s commitment to building a sustainable energy future and actively contributing to the development of the clean and renewable energy sector globally.
Al-Dahhak said, in a speech on the occasion of World Clean Energy Day, which falls on January 26 every year, that “this day represents an important opportunity to explore the role of clean energy in achieving climate goals, through a fair and equitable transformation of the energy sector, and ensuring energy security that will lead towards a brighter future.” Sustainability for all.
She pointed out that the UAE is proud to host three of the largest solar energy stations in the world, in addition to the solar power station project equipped with battery systems for energy storage, which will provide 1 gigawatt per day around the clock, in addition to the Barakah nuclear stations, which provide about 25% of the UAE’s needs. of electricity, noting that these pioneering projects confirm the country’s commitment and its endeavor to achieve the UAE’s climate neutrality strategy 2050.
She added, “Everyone realizes that the transition to clean energy requires concerted global efforts,” pointing to the UAE’s continuous participation in international partnerships aimed at exchanging knowledge, promoting innovation, and supporting developing countries in their quest to find sustainable energy solutions.
Al-Dahhak reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment – on World Clean Energy Day – to accelerate the global transformation in the energy sector, and to build a new world supported by clean and sustainable resources, pointing out that the pioneering projects being developed in the country constitute a model to be followed in this field for all countries of the world.
For his part, Vice Chairman of the Supreme Council of Energy in Dubai and Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, stressed that “World Clean Energy Day is an opportunity to highlight the importance of increasing the proportion of renewable and clean energy within the energy mix globally, which contributes to “In accelerating the pace of climate action, preserving natural resources, and supporting global efforts to confront climate change.”
Al Tayer added: “On World Clean Energy Day, we are proud of the achievements achieved by the UAE under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. He continued: “In Dubai, we continue to implement pioneering projects that enhance Dubai’s global position in the field of sustainability, within the framework of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, and the Carbon Neutrality Strategy 2050 for the Emirate of Dubai, to provide 100% of the energy production capacity from clean energy sources by the year 2050.”
He pointed out that one of the most prominent projects we are implementing is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest solar energy complex in one location in the world, according to the independent energy producer model, with a current production capacity of 2,860 megawatts, and the hydroelectric station in Hatta using stored hydropower technology. It is the first of its kind in the Arabian Gulf region, and its production capacity will reach 250 megawatts, in addition to innovative projects, such as the green hydrogen project, the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa region.
He continued: “We continue to support innovation in the field of energy storage, in addition to research and development in various fields of our work, as well as strengthening strategic partnerships locally and globally, to provide sustainable solutions that contribute to making Dubai the smartest and happiest city in the world, and contribute to shaping a brighter future.” Brightness and sustainability for us and our future generations.”
