Dubai, February 3/ WAM/ The national team to study the impact of data centers on the energy sector in the country held its first meeting at the Dubai Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure Court.
The team discussed a set of projects and initiatives related to the development of the data centers sector and their impact on the energy sector in the country, as well as a number of topics on the agenda, including the challenges facing data centers and ways to enhance their sustainability, and the importance of adopting international best practices, to ensure the operation of data centers efficiently and sustainability .
The meeting was attended by His Excellency Eng. Sharif Al -Alami, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for Energy and Petroleum Affairs, and His Excellency Eng. Saif Ghobash, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, Assistant to the Petroleum, Gas and Mineral Resources Sector, the head of the team, along with members of the team that includes representatives of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, and the Ministry of Industry Advanced technology, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, the Communications Regulatory Authority and the digital government, in addition to the Office of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Labor Applications, the Abu Dhabi Digital Authority, Dubai Digital Authority, Sharjah Digital Authority, along with the Sharjah Digital Department, the Ajman Digital Department, the Government Authority Electronic in Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain Smart Circle, and Electronic Fujairah Government.
The team aims to analyze and study the impact of data centers on the energy sector and the increasing demand for them, in addition to evaluating the local market, the economic impact and the expected returns from this vital sector, limiting all databases in the country and working to classify them according to specific criteria while enhancing the competitiveness of the UAE in this field, And conduct a geographical study to distribute the current and future data centers in the country to ensure the optimal distribution of infrastructure, as well as conducting standard comparisons to see the best global practices used in data centers, and work to develop a federal policy aimed at organizing the work of data centers in the country.
His Excellency Eng. Sharif Al -Ulama stressed the importance of joint work between the various concerned parties to ensure the achievement of the desired goals, and the need to adopt innovative solutions to reduce energy consumption, and to enhance the efficiency of the work of data centers, indicating that the formation of the national team to study the impact of data centers on the energy sector comes within the framework of The strategic directions of the state towards digital transformation and promoting sustainability in the energy sector, as it is expected to contribute to developing policies and organizations that support the sector’s sustainability and maintain the Emirates competitiveness in the field of digital infrastructure.
He stressed the need to find innovative solutions to ensure a balance between the requirements of technological development and the sustainability of energy resources, in line with national goals in the field of energy and sustainability, pointing to the importance of setting a comprehensive framework that includes clear analytical studies and recommendations based on accurate data, which contributes to taking capable strategic decisions On achieving the goals of the state in energy, especially clean and renewed.
