The UAE launches a new path for"Green intellectual property" To stimulate innovation

Dubai, February 6 / WAM / The United Arab Emirates has launched a new path for “green intellectual property”, which aims to stimulate innovation, accelerate technology localization and establish new projects in the fields of circular economy, environmental sustainability and the new economy.
This path is considered three months and will contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of the intellectual property system in the country and pushing it to more advanced and prosperous levels, as well as supporting its orientations in the shift towards the model of the circular economy.
His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al -Marri, Minister of Economy, Chairman of the Emirates Ring Economy Council, said: The UAE, thanks to the forward -looking vision of the wise leadership, has succeeded in adopting qualitative initiatives and projects for the intellectual property sector, as it is one of the vital sectors to build a strong and sustainable national economy.
He added: Today, in light of this trend, we are witnessing a new project for this vital sector, which is the path of “green intellectual property”, which represents a new station to spread awareness of the importance of using technology and green technologies to provide advanced services and products that serve society, as well as enhance the UAE’s attractiveness to green and sustainable innovations, in a way that contributes to the consolidation of Its position is among the most innovative countries in the world, and in line with the vision of “We UAE 2031”.
His Excellency stressed that the new path of intellectual property is of special importance, as it comes in conjunction with the launch of the government of the UAE, the month of government innovation, with work and cooperation with the local authorities concerned with the environment in the country and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), to implement all targets for this path, to provide more It is the possibilities and opportunities that motivate inventors and creators to develop sustainable innovations and projects in the vital economic fields and sectors.
This came during a media briefing organized by the Ministry of Economy at its headquarters in Dubai, during which it reviewed the targets of the new path of “green intellectual property”, and its vital role in supporting national efforts to enhance innovations in the sustainable economic fields of the country.
For his part, His Excellency Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy, stressed that sustainability and preservation of the environment represents an original part of the Emirati culture throughout its history, as the UAE was able to build its renaissance based on the principles and foundations of sustainability, which strengthened its leading and global position in adopting initiatives and friendly solutions The environment, as sustainability is a major axis in the plans and strategies adopted by the state during the last stage to enhance sustainable economic growth.
He pointed out that the Ministry of Economy continues its keenness to support national projects aimed at enhancing sustainability in the various sectors and economic and commercial activities, in line with the state’s directions in building a sustainable and balanced economy that preserves the natural sources of future generations.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy said during his speech in the media briefing: Creativity in sustainable fields, enhancing the competitiveness of the state and raising its position in the relevant global indicators, especially the global innovation index, in which the UAE continues a year after a year of its regional and international leadership.
He added: The new path comes as a continuation of the state’s efforts in developing the intellectual property system in the country depending on the best global practices, and providing the highest levels of legal protection for this system. This path also meets the growing growth in the demand for environmentally friendly innovations at the local and global levels.
He reviewed a group of targets for the “green intellectual property” path that the Ministry seeks to achieve, and includes the launch of a program to accelerate the process of registering patent requests related to sustainable technologies and environmentally friendly innovations, and raising the percentage of patent registration requests for sustainable and environmental innovations to reach 8% of total requests The registration of patents in the country, and the enhancement of legal frameworks for the protection of patents concerned with environmental sustainability, especially since the total number of requests submitted to register patents in the country is witnessing continuous growth, as it reached approximately 3622 requests during the year 2024.
At the end of his speech, His Excellency Al Saleh emphasized that the UAE was able to provide a strong and competitive legislative structure for the development of intellectual property, which included the issuance of laws “Industrial Property Protection”, “Trademarks” and “Copyright and Related Rights”, which made them in the ranks The global developed countries in intellectual property and innovation, as they came first in the Arab world in the Global Innovation Index for the year 2024.
