Zayed International Airport achieves a classification "Three pearls" Within a program "Sustainability"

Abu Dhabi, February 12 / WAM / Abu Dhabi airports announced that Zayed International Airport obtained the classification of “Three Pearls” within the pearl evaluation system of the “Sustainability” program in the construction phase.
This achievement reflects the commitment of Abu Dhabi airports to sustainable development and the leadership of the airport in the field of sustainable infrastructure for airports, with a successful transition from the design stage of “three pearls” to the construction stage while maintaining the same classification.
The classification of “Three Pearls” is a sign of the alignment of Zayed International Airport for the UAE’s ambitions in the field of sustainability and reflects the keenness to reduce the environmental impact, and the use of modern technologies that provide energy and natural resources capable of withstanding climate fluctuations, taking into account its preservation and ensuring their sustainability.
Zayed International Airport was keen to use sustainable building materials, as more than 90% of the steel and more than 80% of wood and coming from sustainable sources were approved.
The airport adopts the principles of the circular economy by recycling 90% of the steel, and the amount of building waste sent to the landfills has been reduced by 86%, which contributes to reducing the environmental impact and achieving the maximum benefit from the recycled materials.
Zayed International Airport scored its superiority over the standards of the “sustainability” program in the efficiency of water consumption by 45%, and works to achieve ambitious goals in line with its tireless sustainability strategy, which aims to reduce energy consumption and drinking water by 30%, and increase dependence on renewable energy sources by a rate 5%, transfer of 40% of waste away from waste, and reducing the total waste volume by 10% by 2030.
In the context of strengthening its sustainable practices, Zayed International Airport last November installed (Reverse Vending Machines – RVMS); To motivate travelers to recycle empty packages of plastic and aluminum.
This initiative contributes to reducing the environmental impact and enhancing the culture of sustainability, supporting the airport’s vision to build a more sustainable future for the region.
