At least 18 people died on Saturday in a stampede at a train station in the Indian capital, which happened during the departure of trains to the largest religious gathering in the world, “Kombe Milla”, which attracts millions of Hindus, medical sources said.
“I can confirm 15 deaths in the hospital,” said Dr. Reto Saxina, deputy director of Luk Nayak Hospital in New Delhi, to Agence France -Presse.
“There are also 11 others. Most of them are stable and they suffer from bone injuries,” she added.
For its part, NTV channel quoted another hospital in the city as saying that there were three additional deaths.

The Minister of Railways Ashwini Fishnaw confirmed that additional special trains are being run from New Delhi to deal with the flow of worshipers.
He said that an order was issued to conduct an investigation into the causes of the accident.
For his part, Prime Minister Narendra Modi added that he “feels sorrow” because of the stampede. “My thoughts with all those who lost their loved ones. I pray to God to grant people with a speedy recovery,” he wrote on the X platform.
The organizers say if this year will be unprecedented in terms of its scope, as it is expected that 400 million visitors will participate in it.
