Ras Al -Khaimah, February 20 / WAM / The activities of the 16th session of the International Employment Workshop for Advanced Materials 2025 were concluded, which was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, and with the participation of a group of scholars and specialists in advanced materials From prestigious academic and research institutions around the world, as well as high school students and universities, where during their sessions and lectures took place The fruit discusses the role of advanced materials in building a more sustainable future for humanity.
The workshop opened His Highness the Ruler of Ras Al -Khaimah last Monday, stressing in his main speech that science is a basic pillar to build a more sustainable future, by making radical transformations in industries through innovation. His Highness also pointed to Ras Al Khaimah’s firm commitment to promoting scientific progress.
Participated in the scientific event, which lasted for three days, more than 200 scientists, student and specialized in advanced subjects from prominent academic and research institutions, such as the universities of Cambridge and Oxford in the United Kingdom, the University of California and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States. Among the participants was Professor Andre Jim, Nobel Prize winner from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, as well as high school students and universities in Ras Al Khaimah.
During the activities of the third day of the workshop, the Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi Foundation for Public Policy Research organized a visit to more than 100 male and female students from various schools of Ras Al Khaimah, where they met four scholars and participated with them in discussions about the importance of science.
The workshop sessions touched on multiple topics on practical applications and the latest research in the field of advanced materials, and the participants shed light on the contributions of this field to various industries.
At the end of the events, the award ceremony was held for the winners of the “Ras Al Khaimah Challenge for Innovation and Sustainability 2025”, which witnessed the participation of school and university students from different age groups, as well as specialists in the industrial sector in the emirate.
Participants competed in a series of competitions to develop innovative and sustainable solutions in several categories, and the winners were honored with cash prizes worth 10,000 dirhams, and the challenge, which was organized in cooperation between the “International Employment Workshop for Advanced Material In Ras Al Khaimah, more than 300 posts.
On Thursday, a delegation of scientists participating in the workshop visited a number of major companies in Ras Al Khaimah, including “Ras Al Khaimah Ceramics”, “Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries – Julphar” and “Valcon Technologies International”, where they reviewed ways to benefit from advanced materials in the development of Its industries, enhance energy efficiency, reduce carbon fingerprint, as well as reduce the need for raw materials.
Advanced materials include minerals, ceramics and polymers, whether new or developed, as they are included in the manufacture of mobile phones, electronic devices, compound materials, dyes, power systems, sensors, membranes and others.
These materials have great potential for a transformation in many sectors, such as flying, transportation, construction, and health care, and also contributes to reducing carbon footprint and reducing energy consumption.
The 16th session of the “International Employment Workshop for Advanced Materials” was held under the auspices of “Stephen Rock”, one of the largest quarries companies in the world, whose production capacity exceeds 80 million tons of stones annually.
