The UAE participates in the United Nations meeting to launch humanitarian plans to respond to the situation in Sudan

Shahd Matar, Deputy Permanent Representative and Acting Chargé d’Affaires at the permanent mission of the UAE to the United Nations and other organizations in Geneva, participated in the joint launch between the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs of the Humanitarian Needs Plan and the response to Sudan for the year 2025 and the regional plan to respond to refugees In Sudan.
Tom Flotcher, Undersecretary of the United Nations Secretary -General for Humanitarian Affairs, pointed out that two years of conflict in Sudan led to one of the largest and most severe displacement crises in the world, and accordingly the United Nations prepared the largest humanitarian call plan for Sudan ever with a total funding of $ 6 billion.
In this context, Flezher highlighted the initial success in Addis Ababa, which was a basic preliminary step for the Geneva meeting, stressing that this unprecedented crisis in terms of size and danger requires an exceptional response.
For his part, Philipo Grande, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, expressed his appreciation for the financial obligations that were pledged during the conference, and he said in this regard: We thank those who made pledges in Addis Ababa, but the most important thing is that these pledges turn into a tangible reality.
For its part, Shahd Matar stressed, during the joint launch of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Office of Humanitarian Affairs for the Plan of Humanitarian Needs and response to Sudan, the importance of this central moment that came on the sidelines of the African Union summit in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, where the UAE organized, along with the side The Democratic Federal Republic of Ethiopia, the African Union, and the International State Department of Development (Igad), in cooperation with the United Nations, a high -level humanitarian conference for the people of Sudan.
She said that the joint message issued by the conference in Addis Ababa was clear, which is the launch of a strong and unified invitation to a humanitarian truce during the holy month of Ramadan – an opportunity to achieve peace, and most importantly, to deliver human life -saving aid to all the needy Sudanese.
She added: The UAE announced during the “high -level humanitarian conference for the people of Sudan” in Addis Ababa to provide additional humanitarian assistance worth $ 200 million, within the framework of the established human values of the UAE and its standing alongside the brotherly Sudanese people in light of the worsening humanitarian crisis.
She pointed out that the UAE providing additional humanitarian aid embodies its firm and continuous commitment to supporting the brotherly Sudanese people, since since the start of the crisis, it provided 600.4 million dollars to support the humanitarian response (200 million during the Addis Ababa conference and 400 million during the 22 months of the life of this tragic conflict, to reach what It was provided by the UAE during the past ten years 3.5 billion dollars of humanitarian aid to the Sudanese people, which confirms its firm commitment to providing support For those in need during crises.
She concluded her intervention by saying that “we must take this opportunity to enhance international efforts towards achieving a unified and decisive humanitarian response, as the situation in Sudan is not more delay.”
The UAE renewed its call to all parties to ensure safe and sustainable access and without any obstacles to humanitarian aid. This is not just a humanitarian call but rather a positive obligation based on international humanitarian law, where we strongly believe that obstruction of access to aid is rejected.
