Ready to give up the presidency for peace and NATO membership

Ukrainian President Folodimir Zellinski said he would be ready to give up the presidency if he brought that peace and NATO membership.
Zelinski said in his speech during a forum that brought together government officials in Kiev on Sunday, on the occasion of the third anniversary of the comprehensive Russian invasion of Ukraine, that he would step down from his position if this will achieve a permanent peace for his country under the security umbrella of the NATO military alliance (NATO).

European Union is a guarantee of security

Zelinski said that allowing Ukraine to join the European Union is a kind of guarantee for the country’s economic security.
“Firstly, if we are talking about economic security guarantees, this is for us the membership of the European Union,” Zellinski said at a newspapers with a conditioner.
He added that if Ukraine is not accepted in the Western Military Alliance (NATO), it is secondly, financing for the Ukrainian army must be provided to enable it to maintain at least 800,000 soldiers.
Economists said that if Ukraine joins the European Union, Brussels will have to pay major compensation for Kiev for years.

It is noteworthy that Ukraine is a candidate to join the European Union since 2022.

Conditions of agreement with the United States

Zelinski indicated that he depends on continuing American support, but he does not want any agreements with Washington at the expense of Ukraine.
Zelinski told Kiev journalists that he agreed with US President Donald Trump the need to stop the war as soon as possible, and that he expects Trump to show understanding and sympathy for his country, which was attacked by Russia.
He stated that “security guarantees by Trump are very necessary, and that economic agreements can also be part of the security guarantees.
However, he said that the first draft of the peace negotiation agreement on the US share of rare minerals did not meet the conditions.

American support

Zelinski explained that there are many things that can be discussed, including gas and oil, but he warned that Ukraine should obtain security in return.
He pointed out that the United States wanted to announce some of its support in recent years as loans retroactively, and added: “We cannot consider financial aid debts, but Ukraine can pay the value of future assistance.”
