"Economy" A laboratory opens "Insta Block" Dubai Media City

Dubai February 25/ WAM/ The Ministry of Economy opened today the Insta Block Laborat Publishing and using visual content and intellectual works, which is one of the initiatives of the new system of ownership Intellectual launched by the ministry recently.

The laboratory opened by His Excellency Dr. Abdul Rahman Hassan Al -Muaini, the assistant undersecretary for the intellectual property sector at the Ministry of Economy, contributes to enhancing cooperation between the relevant government agencies to ensure the enforcement of legislation to serve the protection of the rights of creators and the creative economy, which is a qualitative step to enhance the state’s efforts towards building a sustainable digital future, in Various creative sectors.

Dr. Al -Muaini stressed that the “Insta Block” laboratory contributes to consolidating the state’s position in the indicators of controlling digital piracy, noting that the continuation of national efforts to provide a safe digital environment is an important axis in protecting intellectual property rights, in cooperation with all the regional and international authorities where it has reached The number of sites that were blocked in 2024 in cooperation with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the digital government is 4557 sites compared to a year 2023 where the number of blocked sites reached 1123 sites, which contributes to supporting the growth of the economy, improving the quality of digital content, and encouraging innovation and enhancing the confidence of intellectual rights in the legislative system to protect intellectual property in the country.

Al -Muaini stated that the opening of the laboratory represents a qualitative addition to the national innovation process, and confirms the state’s commitment to providing innovative solutions that rise to the level of intellectual property protection and support the sustainable growth of the digital economy. And contributes to supporting the elements of the creative economy in the country.

For his part, Eng. Saeed Balhll, Deputy Director General of the Information Sector and the Digital Government, at the Communications Regulatory Authority and the digital government, said that this initiative is in line with the state’s directions to provide a digital environment that enhances integration between government agencies and the private sector to achieve a common vision for a sustainable digital future.

He pointed out that in light of the accelerating developments taking place in the digital world, the laws of intellectual property protection have faced unprecedented challenges after the spread of the digital revolution completed illegal transcription and distribution operations for protected materials, which requires the development of effective mechanisms to confront these challenges and protect intellectual rights.

For its part, Fatima Al -Hosani, director of the National Strategy and Copyright Project in the Intellectual Project in the Ministry of Economy, explained that this project aims to provide automatic and rapid blocking service to protect the rights of creative economy companies, with the participation of strategic partners.

She added that the project is not limited to blocking, but rather a laboratory to exchange experiences and see best practices in developing artificial intelligence techniques to combat digital piracy, which enhances the state classification in this field.

She pointed out that the project’s work mechanism depends on receiving communications from the rights holders about the sites and transgressions, to be transferred directly to the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the digital government, which issues blocking orders to the service providers in the country, pointing out that the service will be 24 hours and throughout the week .

She emphasized that the project will play a pivotal role in protecting live events, such as sports championships, and will support the Ramadan 2025 campaign to block sites that go beyond creative content during this month, which is witnessing intensity in media production.

A number of parties from the government and private sectors participated in the laboratory, the most prominent of which are the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, the Digital Government, Dubai Media City and the Dubai Economic Security Center, and the Spanish League Football League Laliga.

A number of cooperation agreements were signed between the Ministry of Economy and a group of visual content display platforms and institutions concerned with the protection of intellectual property rights and innovation support, which are the Council of Trademarks and the platforms of Abu Dhabi Media, Starzplay, Yango Play, and OSN.

These agreements aim to coordinate efforts and enhance cooperation to protect digital and visual content and ensure the protection of the author’s rights on digital content transmission platforms using the technologies provided by the Insta Block Laboratory.

It is expected that the Insta Block Laboratory will witness the joining of many institutions, platforms and regional and international creative projects concerned with broadcasting content, and taking advantage of the comprehensive protection provided by the project to protect creativity and support the innovation environment in the country.
