18 people were killed in a bus accident in Thailand

18 people were killed in a bus accident that occurred east of Bangkok, on Tuesday, and resulted in the breakdown of the brakes, according to Thai police.

The police explained that the two -storey buses with 49 people, most of them members of the local municipal council, when it deviated from the road while it was down on a slope road in Brashin Buri Province, east of the capital.

“17 people were dead in the scene and another died in the hospital,” said police lieutenant in Siwabas Forepachebonchu.

“The driver interrogated us, and he told us that the brakes were disrupted while the bus descended on the slope road,” he added.

About 20,000 people annually are killed in road accidents in Thailand, equivalent to more than fifty people per day, according to the numbers of the World Health Organization for 2023.

In October, the fire broke out on a bus carrying Thai children on a school trip while walking on a highway in the suburbs of Bangkok, killing 23 people, in one of the worst traffic accidents in the country in a decade.
