المملكة: 100 thousand riyals fine for violators in the disbursement of the drug
The Ministry confirmed that the disbursement of medicines is subject to specific controls, which includes the prohibition of disbursing any prescription medication without a prescription, and preventing the frequent disbursement of the drug without a medical justification, with the need to verify the validity of the prescription before the disbursement.
Controls to exchange narcotic drugs and effects
It required adherence to the controls of the exchange of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, and to prevent receiving any material benefit in exchange for the prescription or exchange of the drug, in addition to the necessity of presenting medicine options while clarifying prices to enable patients to make the appropriate decision regarding their treatment.
The Ministry obliged pharmaceutical facilities to provide sufficient quantities of registered medicines to ensure effective pharmaceutical care, and to adhere to the prescription and disbursement of the medicine in the scientific name instead of commercial, with the exception of cases covered by the approved list of exchange in the commercial name, while ensuring the provision of basic and locally manufactured medicines according to the approved lists.
It was obligatory for pharmacies and health institutions to inform the Food and Drug Authority of any shortage of pharmaceutical preparations a month before it was running out, to ensure that they are available and that patients are not affected by the lack of important drugs.
A penalty that violates the control and dispensing control controls
The Ministry of Health stressed that any violation of the control and dispensing controls will lead to strict penalties, as health facilities will face the violation of financial fines that may reach 100 thousand riyals, in addition to closing the facility for a period of up to 60 days or completely canceling the license.
As for the violating health practitioners, the ministry has set imprisonment penalties of up to 6 months, in addition to a fine of up to 100 thousand riyals, in order to ensure commitment to regulations and protecting public health.
The Ministry affirmed that these controls come within its continuous efforts to monitor the pharmaceutical sector and enhance patient safety.
