Darchif, 64, has so far held the position of head of the North Atlantic administration in the ministry and will succeed Anatoly Antonov, who was summoned.

The ministry said that the American side handed over a diplomatic note in Istanbul, in which it agreed to appoint. Darchif will take office within the coming days.
