Saudi families were friendly before breakfast and suhoor to prepare popular dishes available at that time, which reflects the spirit of cooperation and participation.
The Ramadan table was filled with goodness and blessing, as the generation of doctors was interested in the table in breakfast and suhoor.
“Decode an empty stomach” before Ramadan breakfast
At breakfast, they started eating dates, wet and water, a habit known as “stomach decomposition”. After that, the entire family goes to perform the Maghrib prayer, where young adults take with them.
Some families also mixed soup with groats to add a distinctive flavor. The breakfast table was not completed without the presence of values and drinks like berries, which are still circulating today.
As for the suhoor meal, the rice was also present, and the wife was often preparing it with the “wilderness” (dried meat) or “Qadid”, where many preferred to eat it with the “pirate” or the shrimp or meat.
The process of preparing the “drain” meat was done in several stages: First, the meat is cut into long slices, then sprinkled with salt and wrapped tightly with a cloth until it gets rid of fluids, and then spread on a rope to dry completely before it is ready to cook.
Some families also preferred to provide “grie” or “pipes” with rice in the suhoor meal, in addition to “labneh”, which is liquid milk that was drinking abundantly, especially at the time of suhoor.
These Ramadan customs and traditions reflect an aspect of the rich Saudi heritage, which combines simplicity and collective spirit, which makes the month of Ramadan a special time for the family and society.
