Austria regains its position as a source of electricity thanks to renewable energy

Vienna on March 2 / WAM / Austria succeeded thanks to the policy of transformation towards clean energy, in restoring its position again as an electricity exporting country, for the first time since 2009, with the volume of its exports of electricity reached 4747 gigawatts last year.

The management of the Austrian transport and energy system “APG” attributed the main reason behind the success of Austria in increasing energy production and exporting surplus electricity to the enormous expansion of the establishment of renewable, electrical and wind renewable energy systems, which enabled Austria to export electricity abroad in 243 days last year.

Gerahard Christine, CEO of “APG”, pointed out that the generation of renewable electricity in Austria, explaining that the increasing approach to the maximum limits for the ability of electrical networks necessitated the reducing renewable energy generation on many days of last year.

Official figures showed a significant increase in the total electricity generated by renewable sources in Austria by 14.4% in the past year, which contributed to increasing the total clean electricity production in Austria to 57713 gigawatts.
