On the reasons for the rapid divorce, specialists in family science, sociology and law confirmed to «Emirates Today» that early divorce between newlyweds, as a result of an unequal relationship, began on incorrect foundations, including the poor selection of the partner, the difference of personality, and the lack of awareness of how to contain marital differences.
They alerted to the negative social effects of social media, and the interference of family and friends to heat the differences, in order to quickly end the marital relationship, stressing the importance of concerted societal efforts to educate young people who are coming to marriage, on the importance of preserving marital life, and developing their skills in containing differences.
The UAE Personal Status Law authorized the residents of the country, the right to rely on the personal status laws issued in their country, when considering the disputes of marriage and divorce between them, as long as this is in their interest.
The professor of applied social science at Sharjah University, Dr. Ahmed Al -Amoush, stressed that the main reason behind early divorce is the absence of compatibility between the spouses in personality, attention and opinions, the educational level and other social aspects, indicating that divorce is currently a global problem and is not related to a specific society. He stated that one of the other reasons that may lead to divorce is the interference of families in the life of the spouses and the differences that arise between them, and the desire of each party to impose its authority on the other, but the biggest and common reason for the problem of divorce in our Arab societies is the high cost of dowries and the requirements of marriage, and some families are stressed in financial matters, which would disturb the relationship between the two parties before they begin, and extend its negative effects. He stressed the importance of the role of institutions concerned with marriage and family, in implementing awareness campaigns for successful marriage, how to achieve it, and develop the skills of those who are coming to it in how to contain problems with the other partner.
Specialists stressed the importance of educating young people who are coming to marry the importance of preserving marital life, and correcting the wrong concepts of some, that divorce is the rapid solution to problems, noting that there is a basic rule in the marital relationship, which is that it must last at least five years, during which the differences that arise in any way are exceeded, and the concern for mutual understanding, so that the marriage continues for a long time.
They emphasized the importance of strengthening understanding and prior dialogue between the two parties before entering into the marriage experience, in order to avoid separation, as well as the need not to interfere in the problems that occur between husbands, because it may sometimes be a reason for early divorce.
The first article of the Personal Status Law No. 28 of 2005 stipulates that the provisions of the law are applied to the citizens of the Emirates, as it is applied to non -citizens, unless one of them adheres to the application of his law.
