800 million dirhams cinema revenues in the Emirates during 2024

Dubai, March 12 / WAM / The cinema sector in the UAE has achieved revenues of 800 million dirhams during the year 2024, which reflects the increasing demand for cinematic content, and confirms the pivotal role of the UAE in supporting the cinema industry and displaying global productions.
Cinemas in the country witnessed the presentation of 1262 films and the sale of 15 million tickets, which enhances the public’s confidence in the quality of the cinematic experience provided by the UAE, and confirms its leadership in providing the latest cinematic productions according to the highest media standards.
As for the electronic games sector, it has recorded remarkable achievements with revenues exceeding 1.5 billion dirhams during the year 2024, which reflects the rapid development of this vital sector and the growing demand for electronic games.
The year witnessed the follow -up and classification of 375 video games, in line with the adopted age classification in the country, to ensure the provision of suitable content for different age groups, according to the approved media controls. His Excellency Mohammed Saeed Al -Shehhi, Secretary -General of the Emirates Media Council, stressed that these achievements reflect the commitment of the Council to enhance the competitiveness of the cinema and electronic games, and to consolidate their role in the media and entertainment scenes, through the development of organizational frameworks, and to enhance the business environment supporting the growth of recreational content in the country.
His Excellency explained that there are several main factors that contributed to achieving this growth, foremost of which is the diversity of cinematic content, as the Emirati theaters offer films in more than twenty international languages, which reflects the cultural diversity of the state, and confirms its position as a global destination for the film industry.
The pre -emptive show of global cinematic productions also played a pivotal role in enhancing the attractiveness of the sector, as the UAE is characterized by being one of the markets that provide the latest international films in conjunction with the main global markets.
His Excellency Mohammed Al -Shehhi stressed the keenness of the Emirates Media Council to follow up on media content and give him the appropriate age classification, to ensure the consensus of films and electronic games with different age groups, which enables families to choose the appropriate content for their children, and enhances society’s confidence in the quality of cinematic shows and electronic games in the country.
The Secretary -General of the Emirates Media Council added that integrated services and ease of doing business contributed to the consolidation of the UAE’s position as a major destination for the media industry, as the state has an advanced infrastructure, smooth measures, and a flexible organizational system that supports investments in the cinema and electronic games sectors.
