Wall Street suffers from fear and fluctuations under customs tariffs

American stocks suffer from fear and fluctuations, where a volatile trading session is in another, with investors absorbing new developments on customs tariffs and new signs of slowdown in the first American economy in the world, according to the American “Investobide” platform.
US stock indicators fluctuate
The Dow Jones Industrial and Standard & Poor’s 500 index decreased by 1.1% and 0.8%, respectively, while the NASDAC compound index, which is dominated by the technology sector, decreased by 0.2% with the recovery of the main indicators of its sharp losses that incurred it earlier in the session.
The stocks started the week with severe losses after significant declines last week, with investor concerns about the potential impact of the Trump administration policies and the possibility of the economy sliding into a stagnation.
The largest decrease in “NASDAC” shares
The NASDAC complex index recorded a decrease of 4% on Monday in its largest decrease in one day since 2022, while the Standard & Poor’s 500 and Dow Jones Index since December.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 and NASDAC index recorded their lowest level since September, as the main indicators have all the gains that led to a series of standard heights after the presidential elections.
Standard height in customs duties
Trump announced that customs duties on steel and aluminum imports from Canada will rise to 50% from Wednesday after it was 25%.
Trump explained that this step came in response to Ontario’s decision to impose customs duties by 25% on electricity exports from the province to the United States.

Trump’s advisor stated that the additional fees will not be applied to imports from Canada after the Prime Minister of Ontario, Dog Ford, agreed not to impose these additional fees on electricity.
Anxiety among companies investors
Investors fear that Trump’s wide efforts will be caused by the imposition of customs duties to harm companies that import spare parts and products from other countries and their commercial businesses around the world, especially with other countries imposing reprisals.
Economists believe that commercial fees are likely to stimulate inflation and slow economic growth.
The nature of intermittent commercial policies also raises the concern of the participants in the market.
The shares of auto manufacturers
The shares of “Ford Motor” and “Stellantis” company decreased the parent company “Chrysler”, which is expected to be affected by customs duties by about 3%.
The shares of airlines also decreased after the “Delta”, “American” and “South West” reduced their expectations, noting the weak demand for travel in light of the economic uncertainty.
Delta and American shares decreased by 7% and 8%, respectively, while United Airlines shares decreased by 2%.
The shares of other travel companies, including reservation companies, cruises and hotels, also declined.
Technology shares
The shares of “Apple” also pressed the Dow Jones, as it decreased by about 3%, continuing its decline after news that the company postponed the launch of some of Siri’s features supported by artificial intelligence.
Analysts believe that this step may negatively affect the sales of iPhone.
The shares of other huge technology closed at an altitude, but “Tesla” lost half of its value since it reached its highest level in December after it decreased by 15% on Monday, leading a drop in the technology sector.
The shares of the “Invidia” manufacturer of artificial intelligence chips increased by 1.7%, while its competitor “Broadcast” added 3%, as “Microsoft”, “Amazon” and “Mita” achieved the shares of “Alphabet” the mother company “Google” by about 1%.
What analysts say?
Trump reduced the extent of being affected by the markets. Just a day after the stock markets decreased sharply due to concerns about the impact of Trump’s policies, Trump decided to double the customs duties on steel and aluminum against Canada, in response to the high fees on Canadian electricity, which is worth about $ 100 per bill in New York, Minnesota and Michigan.
There are two influential factors in this field. There is evidence of the possibility of an actual reflection in the American economic morale, which raises questions about the possibility of recession.
The latest analysis conducted by the Atlanta branch of the Federal Reserve Bank is expected to decline in the first three months of this year 2025.
