Zelinski denies that Trump has a request for ownership of power stations in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Folodimir Zellinski denied that US President Donald Trump suggested that the United States ownership of the electricity network and nuclear power stations in Ukraine as a security guarantee, according to the American government’s account.
According to the American side, Trump suggested, during a call held on Wednesday with Zelinski, that the United States owes the electricity network and nuclear power plants in Ukraine as a security guarantee, but Zelinski told the Financial Times that the discussion was limited only to the Zaburigia nuclear plant under the Russian occupation.

Restoring the Zaburigia station

Zelinski told the British newspaper that the role of the largest nuclear station in Europe in any future security arrangements depends on whether Ukraine will be able to regain control and return it to service, adding that he discussed with Washington the possibility of the United States to intervene to restore the station from the Russians.
The nuclear stations are the backbone of the production of electricity in Ukraine, which suffers from the scourge of war, especially after many coal stations operating in Russian attacks.

The government in Kiev is currently controlling 3 nuclear stations, while Russia has seized the fourth station in Zaburigia in 2022 and is still occupying it.

Joint Ukrainian statement

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Adviser Michael Waltz issued a joint statement after the call between Trump and Zelinski, stating that the US President informed his Ukrainian counterpart that “the United States could be very useful in operating these stations with its expertise in the field of electricity and public facilities.”
The joint statement added: “The ownership of the United States of these stations will be the best protection of this infrastructure and in support of the Ukrainian energy sector.”
