The director of the Special Tasks Department and the head of the follow -up team and the street vendors, Brigadier General Omar Al -Ghazal Al -Shamsi, stressed that begging is a negative phenomenon that represents a security and social challenge, as the beggars take advantage of the sympathy of members of society to achieve rapid and illegal gains.
He explained in press statements today, that among the cases that were seized, a person of Arab nationality, on which a communication was received from a member of the community, while he was in his side of one of the mosques, where the worshipers were sympathetic, claiming the need and the narrowness To beg.
Al -Shamsi pointed out that the Sharjah Police, through its awareness campaign, “begging for a crime and giving is a responsibility” that she launched at the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, continues its efforts in combating this phenomenon, by intensifying military and civil patrols to control beggars and street vendors, some of whom turned begging into a seasonal profession, especially during the holy month.
Sharjah Police called on community members not to respond to beggars, and to report any begging situation that is monitored, by contacting the free number (80040) or through the call center (901).
