The European Space Agency announces the end of the mission of the space telescope “Gaia”
The agency said in a statement that during 11 years, “Gaia” was able to put an actual map of the galaxy, highlighting its upbringing, development and current form, as well as monitored the Milky Way environment, documenting the presence of more than 50 dwarf galaxy in orbit, along with streams and stars, and at home recorded the paths of 150 thousand asteroids, and discovered at least 33 black holes.
The mission is over
“Gaia” started on December 19, 2013 under the supervision of the European Space Agency, and the telescope worked from a stable orbit at a distance of 1.5 million kilometers from the ground.
With the end of his mission, the agency engineers were keen to issue an order to stop its operation to avoid the threat of other tools operating there, such as the James Web Space Telescope.
Despite the end of the mission, the huge quantities of data collected by “Gaia” will remain in use, and the task is expected to issue its fourth record in 2026 AD, which is based on 5 and a half years of monitoring operations, and the final record is expected to be issued within the year 2030 AD, including information based to 10 and a half years of precise monitoring.
