UNRWA denounces targeting its headquarters in East Jerusalem and renewed the call for a ceasefire in Gaza

Lazarini said that death, disease, destruction and hunger as if it were not sufficient for the Palestinians in Gaza, noting that the orders of the forced displacement issued by the Israeli authorities in Rafah affect more than 140,000 people.
Lazarini explained, in a post on the X website that “people in Gaza are treating as if they were killing military orders that manipulate their fate and their lives,” noting that the new displacement orders cause grief and anxiety and lack of certainty during the days of Eid, “which is a time when people are supposed to meet with their families and loved ones.”
Lazarini asked, “Where is it supposed to be transferred?” He added that Gaza is “closed just like a cage, the borders are closed, and the basic supplies are prohibited from entering.”
He added: “There are one million people, half of them are children. How is this allowed, in full view of the world, in the absence of any control or accountability? It is one of the darkest moments in our common humanity – those that pledged to us not to allow it to be repeated at all.”
UNRWA headquarters in East Jerusalem was deliberate
In a related context, UNRWA condemned its headquarters in East Jerusalem to another deliberate fire. UN employees were forced to evacuate the headquarters in January 2025, with “the implementation of Israeli laws aimed at the work of UNRWA, coinciding with the repetition of attacks, harassment and threats.”

He warned that “the United Nations employees and its facilities in the West Bank are facing increasing threats,” stressing that “these headquarters provide humanitarian services to the most vulnerable Palestine refugees, and should not be a target.”
