The European Parliament approves a financial aid package for Egypt and Jordan

Brussels on April 1 / WAM / European Parliament members agreed to two proposals to grant Jordan and Egypt loans worth 500 million euros and 4 billion euros, respectively.

Parliament adopted the total financial assistance of Egypt by a majority of 452 supporters, 182 opposition votes, 40 members abstaining from voting. With regard to Jordan, approval came with a majority of 571 supporters, 59 opposition votes, and 46 members abstaining from voting.

The European Commission proposed to support Egypt on March 15, 2024 with total financial aid in the form of loans worth 5 billion euros divided into a short -term loan of one billion euros – it was already spent at the end of 2024 – and another regular loan of up to 4 billion euros is spent on three installments and parliament agreed to the proposal.

For Jordan, the loan should help cover financing needs, support structural reforms and efforts to control public financial conditions.
