The UAE wins a seat on the Group of Asia and the Pacific of the United Nations CND Committee (CND)

Abu Dhabi, April 5/ WAM/ The United Arab Emirates, represented by the Ministry of Interior, won the membership of the United Nations Drug Committee for the years (2026-2029), for the Group of Asia and Pacific countries, where this committee, which was established according to the decision of the technical committees of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (Ecosoc), is a central body for drug-related policies within the United Nations system, and undertakes functions Important under the various international agreements to combat drugs and supervise the application of international treaties, and new members have been voted recently at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

The United Arab Emirates has submitted a request to run for the membership of this ICRC, based on the good relations that the state is keen on with brotherly and friendly countries in the world’s continents, and in appreciation of the role the state plays in supporting the efforts of coordination and joint integrative work between the countries of the region and the world.

With this recent vote, the countries, UAE, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, will join the representatives of the Asia and Pacific Group in this ICRC, which is one of the main committees in the Economic and Social Council, and the state membership in this committee provides an active participation in the international drug decision -making and policies, through proposing decisions and participating in preparing and voting on it, as well as enhancing the good reputation of the state and its pivotal role in Global security, combating illegal spread of narcotic substances, and contributing to monitoring the global balance of display and demand for narcotic substances.

It is noteworthy that the CND Committee (CND) was established, according to the Economic and Social Council Resolution No. (9) in 1946, to help the Council oversee the implementation of international drug control treaties.

In the year (1991), the General Assembly expanded the mandate of the Drug Committee, to act as a ruling body of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and the agenda of the Drugs Committee consists of two parts, the first to perform jobs based on treaties and standards, and a operational part to exercise its role as an arbitration body for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and the committee meets annually and adopts a set of decisions In 2019, the committee adopted the ministerial declaration on strengthening procedures at the national, regional and international levels to accelerate the implementation of the joint obligations that were severed to address and combat global drug problem jointly, and in the declaration, member states decided to review the progress made in implementing politics in the year (2029), with a review of the mid -time that coincides with the year (2024).

The committee is actively working on following the ministerial declaration of (2019), to accelerate the implementation of all international obligations related to drug policy.

It also reviews and analyzes the drug committee global the drug, taking into account the reduction of supply and demand, and takes measures through decisions and decisions, as it plays an important role in drawing policies and work plans on international cooperation towards an integrated and balanced strategy to confront the problem of global drugs in order to enhance the security of societies.
