The UAE deposits its joining documents to two agreements related to aviation security

In a new step that reflects the UAE’s steadfast commitment to support the international system for the security and safety of civil aviation, the state has officially deposited the documents of its accession to both the Beijing Convention to suppress illegal works related to international civil aviation, and the 2010 Beijing Protocol that supplementing the unlawful seizure agreement on aircraft, during an official ceremony held at the headquarters of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in the city of Montreal – Canada.

The deposit ceremony witnessed the Ambassador of the UAE to Canada, Abdul Rahman Ali Al -Neyadi, and the Secretary -General of the organization, Juan Carlos Salazar.

The 2010 Beijing Agreement is an international treaty aimed at criminalizing terrorist acts targeting the civil aviation sector, as it includes items criminalizing the use of civilian aircraft as a weapon, or the use of dangerous materials to attack aircraft or targets on the ground, in addition to the illegal transport of biological, chemical and nuclear weapons.

The Director General of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Saif Muhammad Al -Suwaidi, said: “The UAE’s accession to the Beijing and its complementary protocol for the year 2010, in an embodiment of the state’s keenness to cooperate with the international community to protect the civil aviation industry from any illegal work.”
