“Economy” enhances control of the quality of food and consumer products

The Ministry of Economy has signed a memorandum of understanding with the company “SGS Ghost Limited”, with the aim of enhancing joint cooperation in controlling the quality of food and consumer products in the state markets, and ensuring that they match the highest safety standards followed in this regard, as well as verifying the validity of consumer complaints that fall within the Ministry’s jurisdiction, in a manner that ensures enabling proper commercial practices, and creating a safe environment for consumers when purchasing goods and products.
A statement issued yesterday stated that the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy, Abdullah Al Saleh, and the CEO of SGS Galva, Nakhdin Becud, signed the memo, noting that SGS is a world leader in the fields of examination, testing, inspection and issuing certificates.
Al -Saleh said that the ministry is keen to continue to enhance cooperation with its partners at the level of the government and private sectors, to support the flexibility and effectiveness of the consumer protection system in the country in a sustainable way, and to enhance control of products and goods in the markets, as well as adopting initiatives that would establish a sound consumer culture.
He added that the partnership with SGS represents a new station to enhance the organizational frameworks aimed at providing a safe and high -quality consumer environment for consumers, and to ensure the application of the best standards for commercial control over goods and products, in order to support the competitiveness of the business and trade environment in the country, and enhance the growth and competitiveness of the national economy.
For her part, Becaoud said: “The Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Economy is a vital step to enhance the protection of consumers in the UAE, as their safety and satisfaction and their confidence falls in the company’s work priorities, and we are keen to adopt the best practices and solutions used in this regard.”
According to the memo, the Ministry of Economy and SGS Gally works to provide joint awareness programs on the food, beverage, cosmetics industry and other products, which contributes to preserving the quality of products and goods within the state markets, and supports the growth of internal trade in the seven emirates. In addition, workshops will be organized in universities, educational institutions and schools, to enhance the knowledge of the safety of products and encourage sound consumer patterns.
In addition, the company «SGS», at the request of the ministry, is responsible for verification and examination of consumer complaints that fall within the jurisdiction of the ministry, as well as testing samples from the market for a group of goods and products, especially children’s food, beauty products and spare parts, with the aim of ensuring their quality, safety and conformity to specifications.
