Because of the violence … declaring a state of emergency in 7 provinces in Ecuador

Ecuador announced the state of emergency on Saturday on the eve of the presidential elections in seven of its 24 provinces, as well as in the capital Kito and prisons to meet the increasing violence related to drug trade.

Increase violence rates

President Noboa, who has been in power since November 2023, imposed a state of emergency in the face of “increasing violence and committing crimes and illegal acts by organized armed groups,” according to the decree.
