The US Secretary of State calls for a humanitarian truce in Sudan

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Friday that the new year represents an opportunity for a humanitarian truce in which was torn by war, and urged countries to use their influence to bring peace.
Rubio stressed in a press conference that "99% of our focus is on these and reach it as quickly as possible"

He added: "We believe that the New Year represents a great opportunity for both sides to agree on this, and we are doing our best in this regard".
Sudan has been exposed to destruction since the start of the war between the army and the In April 2023, tens of thousands of people were killed, millions were displaced, and abuses and famine were widespread.

Rubio said that both sides had violated their commitments, and expressed concern about new reports of humanitarian aid convoys being attacked. He added: "What’s happening there is terrible, it’s terrible"
He continued: "There will come a day when the true story of what happened there will be known, and everyone involved will look bad"
The US Secretary of State added: "We hope that we can make some progress on this, but we know that in order to make progress, it will require external actors to use their influence.".
