Rustam Umarov wrote, via the “X” platform, that “a new series of consultations will be launched with the American side, and at the initiative of Washington, our European partners are also participating in these discussions,” noting that the Ukrainian delegation is dealing with the negotiations “in a constructive spirit.”

The plan to end the war with Russia

Direct European participation is a new element compared to the rounds. The precedent, which was held during the past weeks between the Ukrainian and American delegations in Geneva, Miami and Berlin, without an official European presence.

The United States had put forward, more than a month ago, a plan to end the war with Russia, but its first formula, which was described as being consistent with the Kremlin’s demands, was subject to amendments following consultations with Kiev.

The details of the amended formula were not revealed, but the President Ukrainian Volodymyr Zelensky announced that it includes concessions by Ukraine on the level of some territories, in exchange for obtaining security guarantees from Western countries.

Accelerating diplomatic efforts

This new round of discussions comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that “the ball is in the court” of Kiev and its European allies, noting that Moscow agreed to “settlements” during its talks with the American side.
