Researchers at “Mohammed bin Rashid University” discover a boom that causes a rare disturbance in the growth of children

Researchers at Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, which leads the tasks of learning and discovering in “Dubai Health”, have found a rarely disturbance in the child’s growth, through a new scientific study published in the American Journal of Human Genetics.

The study was led by a team of researchers at the university, which included Dr. Associate Professor in Genetics, Director of the Genetic Medicine Center in Dubai Health, Ahmed Aboutioun, and assistant professor in molecular biology at the university, Dr. Fahd Ali.

The team discovered that the changes in the gene are scientifically known as “FBXO22” prevent it from working properly, which leads to a series of evolutionary problems, including severe restrictions in the prenatal growth process, and the child after birth was exposed to mental disability, along with other complications that may affect the heart, system and skeleton.

The discovery of doctors will help diagnose these cases in children accurately and easily, and then provide appropriate medical advice to families on family planning, in addition to long -term care.

The Executive Director of Academic Affairs in Dubai Health, Deputy Director of the University for Academic Affairs, Dr. Alawi Sheikh Ali, said that the new medical discovery will contribute to a real difference in the lives of patients and their families.

“The study shows how genetic research can reveal the root causes of genetic diseases that affect children in local communities, and contribute to developing a more accurate and efficient mechanism for diagnosis, and contribute to global efforts to better understand the human genome.”

He added: “Through this discovery, we can provide answers to families affected by this rare situation, and help them in future family planning, while providing support and medical advice to them.”

The scientific study included 16 cases of 14 families in the Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Lebanon, and the team used a scientific technique known as “long genetic sequence and short reading” to study the DNA for children, and find a boom in the FBXO22 gene, where they also noticed that this boom is involved in some features with other known disorders, which confirms the importance of this gene to grow and healthy development for children.

The study took place with the support of the “Al -Jalila Foundation”, the bid arm of Dubai’s health, Mohammed bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, and the Excellence Center for Smart Health at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology.
