Uzbekistan Ambassador to the country: We look forward to working with the Emirates during a conference "UNESCO"

Abu Dhabi, April 22/ WAM/ His Excellency Abdulaziz Okolov, Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the country, stressed that the relations between the UAE and the Republic of Uzbekistan have witnessed an accelerated development in recent years, noting that there is close cooperation between the two countries within the framework of international organizations, and Uzbekistan is keen to work closely with the UAE during the organization of the 43rd session of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in the city Samarkand this year.

This came during a dialogue session held yesterday at the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy, about the contribution of Uzbekistan to UNESCO initiatives and the efforts of coordination with the UAE to achieve sustainable development goals, in the presence of His Excellency Nikolai Mladenov, Director General of the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy and a number of officials from both sides.

His Excellency said that the relations between Uzbekistan and the UAE have witnessed in recent years an accelerated development, pointing out that during the visit of His Excellency Shawkat Mirdayev, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, to the UAE last January, a declaration was signed on the strategic partnership between the two countries, which reflects the keenness and aspiration of the two countries to enhance these distinguished relations, and move them towards wider horizons of growth and development in all fields.

He added that the two countries are cooperating closely within the framework of international organizations, and they provide mutual support for initiatives in international forums, and in this context, we intend to work closely with our partners in the Emirates to organize the UNESCO conference sessions in Samarkand.

His Excellency affirmed that cultural relations between Uzbekistan and the UAE have a special momentum, as this is evident in the joint commitment to protecting heritage and promoting cultural dialogue, expressing the pride of Uzbekistan with its annual participation in a national wing at the Sheikh Zayed Festival in Abu Dhabi, where its rich traditions and handicrafts are presented to a global audience and the two countries support each other’s cultural initiatives in an active way, which creates platforms for cooperation He exchanged experiences, noting that one of the most prominent forms of this cooperation is the partnerships between the leading museums in Uzbekistan and the UAE, which resulted in joint exhibitions and professional exchange programs.

He added that in March 2025, Uzbekistan became the ninth member of the “International Alliance for Heritage Protection in Conflict Zones”, which reflects the joint commitment to the protection of cultural heritage, and it is noteworthy that this alliance was launched in April 2025 as an invitation to provide projects aimed at protecting the Central Asian heritage from climatic threats, in a move that highlights the active role of both Uzbekistan and the UAE in efforts to preserve regional heritage.

He affirmed the depth of relations between his country and the Arab Gulf states, expressing his country’s aspiration to host the second summit between the leaders of the Cooperation Council states and the leaders of the Central Asian countries, on May 5 in the city of Samarkand, stressing that this summit will contribute to the transfer of the relations of the Central Asian countries and the Arab Gulf region to a new qualitative stage of cooperation.

His Excellency said that Samarkand, one of the oldest cities in the world, is a growing center for international conferences, tourism and business, and in recent years it hosted the summit of heads of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization “2022”, and the twenty -fifth session of the General Assembly of the United Nations World Tourism Organization “2023”, and the Central Asian Summit – European Union “2025”, along with other high -level activities.

He pointed out that hosting the ancient city of the “43” session of the General Conference of UNESCO reflects the cultural achievements of the state and its rich cultural, cultural and scientific heritage, as for the first time in more than 40 years, this prominent event of the international organization outside the French capital Paris is held.

His Excellency thanked the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy for hosting this dialogue session, which reflected the growth and development of relations between the two countries.
