The UAE and the Republic of Korea are reviewing their peaceful nuclear cooperation achievements

The Joint Higher Committee in the field of nuclear cooperation between the government of the United Arab Emirates and the government of the Republic of Korea held its sixth meeting in the capital, Abu Dhabi, within the framework of the growing strategic partnership between the two countries in the peaceful nuclear energy sector.

The meeting was chaired by the head of the committee from the Emirati side, Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al -Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, and from the Korean side Kang Inson, the second deputy of the Foreign Ministry, in the presence of senior officials from the nuclear energy, development and research authorities in both countries, in addition to the three presidents and members of the committee.

Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei stressed the durability of bilateral relations between the two countries and said that the strategic relations between the UAE and the Republic of Korea have resulted in many achievements, most notably the Emirates Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program.

He added that the Joint Supreme Committee contributed greatly to the consolidation of this cooperation and building a strong infrastructure that paves the way for more strategic partnerships, expressing his confidence that the two countries will continue to work together to achieve their common vision.

The Joint Supreme Committee in the field of peaceful nuclear cooperation between the UAE and the Republic of Korea includes three working groups: “Cooperation in the Baraka Nuclear Energy Station and External Projects; Research and Development in the field of nuclear science and technology; and nuclear safety and security organization.”

Each working group operates according to a joint project program to enhance nuclear cooperation relations, including exchanging operational expertise, cooperation in external nuclear energy projects, research and development, capacity building, advanced nuclear technology, cybersecurity, and others.

The meetings of the Joint Supreme Committee come within the framework of the cooperation agreement in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, signed between the two countries, which aim to expand and deepen the nuclear partnership in a way that serves common interests in the areas of sustainable development and clean energy in addition to reviewing the achievements made during the last period, and discussing the prospects for future cooperation and joint projects that support the progress in the peaceful nuclear energy sector at the regional and international levels.
