Of Lebanese origin .. The Senate approves the appointment of Janine Peru, a public prosecutor for Washington

The US Senate appointed the former judge and the presenter of TV programs Janine Peru as the Colombia General Prosecutor, after a vote that came with a score of 50 votes against 45, becoming one of the most prominent media figures chosen by US President Donald Trump to assume senior official positions.

Peru, who hails from the town of Bellaem in Mount Lebanon, has a long march in the Judicial and Public Prosecution Corporation, and was the first woman to hold the position of General Prosecutor of West Chester in New York State. She also achieved wide media fame through her program “Justice with Judge Janine”, which was broadcast by Fox News for 11 years.

Her appointment is a rare victory for Trump’s nominations in the judiciary files, especially after he had to withdraw the former Ed Martin nomination due to the absence of Republican support.

Trump wrote on his “Truth Social” platform that Peru “is fully qualified for this position,” praising its judicial and media expertise, while some members of the Democratic Party expressed their concern about its controversial views, especially with regard to the 2020 elections.

Peru is expected to oversee highly sensitive political and judicial files, including trials linked to former Trump’s allies, which highlights the role he will play in the next stage.

Janine Peru, who resigned from her position in New York in 2005, is considered one of the most prominent supporters of Trump, and published several books in which she supported his positions. Her personal life has sparked widespread media attention, especially after her ex -husband condemned the tax evasion, before he was covered by a presidential pardon from Trump himself.
