A memorandum of understanding between the UAE Falconers Club and the International Fishing Council

Abu Dhabi, April 27 / WAM / His Excellency Majid Ali Al -Mansoori, Secretary -General of the Emirates Falcon Club, confirmed that the falconry has become a global model for international cooperation and cultural dialogue, noting that the efforts of the UAE resulted in the registration of the falconry in 2010 within the representative list of the infinite cultural heritage of humanity at UNESCO.

This came during the participation of His Excellency yesterday, Saturday, in the Qatari capital, Doha, within the work of the 71st General Assembly of the International Hunting and Protection of Wildlife (CIC), which is concluded today, and in the working session titled “Falcon in the Arabian Peninsula” with the participation of a group of experts and specialists from around the world.

The work of the general assembly will be held from April 25 to 27, as the International Council includes about 1900 members from 86 countries and aims to enhance the sustainable management of wildlife and natural resources.

During his speech, the Secretary -General of the Emirates Falfari Club reviewed prominent historical stations in the global falconry march, headed by the First World Falcon Conference, which was hosted by Abu Dhabi in 1976, which for the first time gathered the Arabian Peninsula, with their counterparts from North America, Europe and the Far East.

Al -Mansouri said that this conference constituted a strategy starting point led by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God bless him, to collect the worlds of the world to be pioneers in protecting nature and preserving species, and preserving falconry as a common global human heritage and that education and spreading awareness among new generations remains a fundamental matter to ensure the sustainability of falconry and enhance the role of sustainable hunting in preserving the environment.

His Excellency announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Emirates Falcon Club and the International Council for the Preservation of Fishing and Wildlife, aimed at enhancing cooperation in environmental protection projects, supporting the cultural heritage of falconry in addition to joint coordination to organize activities that promote sustainability and preserve wildlife.

Al -Mansouri explained that these initiatives come within the framework of the UAE Falcon Club’s keenness to maintain falconry as a global human heritage, consolidate the authentic principles of Arab falconry, enhance sustainable fishing, protect the diversity, in addition to supporting relevant studies and legislation, implementing the projects of hawks and walkers in captivity, and preserving their natural environments.

The provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation include spreading awareness of the ethics of falconry, preserving traditions, developing sustainable fishing methods, enhancing cultural exchange between students in the field of falconry, exchanging experiences and acquaintances between Emirati falconers and their counterparts from the member states of the International Hunting Council, highlighting the falconry as a sustainable way that corresponds to international goals for environmental protection, and promoting their importance through global platforms including the activities of the Council UNESCO Initiatives for Intangible Cultural Heritage, the participation of Falcons Persons’ Participation in Related Events, Organizing Falcon Auctions, Creating New Activities to Promote Cooperation in the Field of Hunting in Saluki, highlighting the rich cultural aspects of this heritage and cooperation in preserving the pilgrims and increasing global awareness of the importance of environmental preservation.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding comes in order to enhance the efforts of the UAE in protecting cultural and environmental heritage and consolidating its pioneering role in preserving falconry as a global humanitarian heritage and ensuring its sustainability for future generations.
