The Secretary -General congratulates Pope Liu XIV – “Electing the Pope is an important spiritual moment for millions of believers.”

In a press release, Secretary -General Antonio Guterres said: “Our world needs the most powerful voices calling for peace, social justice, human dignity and mercy. I look forward to building the ancient legacy of cooperation between the United Nations and the Apostolic Chair – recently sponsored by Pope Francis – to enhance solidarity and reconciliation and build a fair and sustainable world for all.”

The Secretary -General added that this cooperation takes root in the first words of Pope Liu, despite the rich diversity in the backgrounds and beliefs, people everywhere shared a common goal: let the peace of the whole world prevail.
