Abu Dhabi, May 14/ WAM/ The UAE participated in the meeting of the tourism ministers of the countries of the “BRICS” group that was held in the Brazilian capital, Brazilia, as part of efforts to enhance international cooperation in supporting sustainable tourism development and exchanging best global practices in the tourism sector, as it is one of the most important vital economic sectors in the country.
The meeting was attended on behalf of His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al -Marri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of the Emirates Tourism Council, His Excellency Dr. Abdul Rahman Hassan Al -Moaini, Assistant Undersecretary for the Intellectual Property Sector in the Ministry of Economy.
Al -Muaini stressed that the UAE has paid great attention to the development of a flexible and sustainable tourist sector according to the best global practices, which established its position in a leading global destination in the tourism sector, and strengthened its active presence on the map of international tourism, noting that the state with a vision and directives of its wise leadership is keen to enhance cooperation with all international partners, foremost of which is the Group of “BRICS” to develop an innovative and sustainable tourist sector, and formulate a more tourist future Commonly, innovation and sustainability for future generations.
Al -Muaini reviewed during the meeting the most prominent indicators of the tourism sector performance in the country and the initiatives and policies it implements to enhance its position is a leading global destination for sustainable and innovative tourism, in line with the “National Tourism Strategy 2031”, which aims to raise the UAE’s position as the best tourist identity around the world, and receive 40 million hotel guests annually by the next decade.
His Excellency pointed to the UAE’s interest in integrating the latest technology applications and technologies in the tourism sector, through initiatives and policies supporting the growth and prosperity of the sector, such as launching the first national platform for tourism with virtual and enhanced reality technologies, and expanding digital allocation tools to improve the traveler’s experience from reservation to departure, which represents a common vision with the axis of digital innovation adopted by the Republic of Brazil in its presidency of “Brexes” for 2025.
He pointed out that the UAE has made remarkable progress in the indicators of global competitiveness, as it ranked first regionally and 18 globally in the tourism and travel development index issued by the World Economic Forum for the year 2024, and the tourism sector in the UAE attracted about 30.8 million hotel guests during the year 2024, achieving 9.5% growth compared to 2023, and the hospitality sector achieved an exceptional performance during a year 2024, where hotel establishments revenues increased to approximately 45 billion dirhams, achieving 3% growth compared to the previous year. In addition, the number of workers in the tourism sector at the state level increased to 833 thousand jobs, representing 12.5% of the total national workforce, with a significant increase in the participation of youth and women thanks to the skills development programs and the rehabilitation of future competencies.
