A rare Emirati coins in the Zayed National Museum

Abu Dhabi, May 22 / WAM / Historical coins offered at the Zayed National Museum offer a unique opportunity to explore the stages of the development of the monetary system in the UAE and its economic growth.

These artifacts highlight the great importance of the currency in building the state’s financial infrastructure, allowing visitors a deeper understanding of the history of the Emirates, and enhances their appreciation for the continuous growth witnessed by the state and its prominent role in the global economy today.

The museum includes the “Abayel” currency, which is an example of the first coins coated on the land of the Emirates, and it is inspired by Alexander the Great in the late fourth century BC, and it is characterized by the pattern of its inscriptions that depict the Greek hero Hercules on one side, while the second face depicts an inscription of a person sitting with a horse.

The horse, which represents the local symbol of power, replaces the bird that was regularly appearing on the currencies of Alexander the Great, and replaces the Aramaic word (Abayel) that indicates the title of royal, the place of the word Alexander that was written in the Greek language, and some of these coins were issued in covenants in which women ruled, indicating the ancient history of empowering women in the UAE.

The exhibition also includes the paper currency of the one dirham category within the first issuance of monetary currencies in the Federation of the United Arab Emirates, and the dirham contributed to advancing the economic development in the country, and the replacement of the various currencies that was used in the seven Emirates, and the monetary currency of the dirham category is still in use in the form of a coin, while the paper currencies withdrew from the same launch from trading.

The Zayed National Museum, the National Museum of the UAE, celebrates the history of the ancient state, its culture and its inspiring stories from ancient times until the modern times, and recounts the biography of the founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul.

The museum focuses through its collection of permanent and temporary oppositions on multiple aspects of the life, legacy and values ​​of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, “May God rest his soul”, in an authentic story style, as well as highlighting the state’s heritage, customs and traditions, national identity, Emirati heritage, history of the land environment, and cultural exchange.

The museum pays special attention to some of the main elements, and narrates stories inspired by the established values ​​of Sheikh Zayed, such as his deep faith in education, the environment, sustainability, heritage, culture, and preserving human values, as these values ​​reflect his high human sense and his strong faith.

The museum is located within the cultural region of Saadiyat, whose position is established as one of the largest cultural institutions in the world, in which the past symbols meet with future makers with today’s creators and future creators, to celebrate the achievements of the UAE, the Middle East and the world as a whole.

The cultural region in Saadiyat provides its visitors with the opportunity to identify world history and collective culture through a diversified narration, which is home to the Louvre- Abu Dhabi, the Zayed National Museum, Tim Lab Phenomina Abu Dhabi, Jojnehim Abu Dhabi, Museum of Natural History, Manara Al Saadiyat, and Birkly Abu Dhabi.
