Sheikha Al -Nuwais reviews in "Intensopia – Mediterranean" In Cyprus, its vision to develop and sustain the tourism sector

Nicosia, June 10 / WAM / His Excellency Sheikha Nasser Al -Nuwais, the Secretary -General of the United Nations Tourism Organization for the period from 2026 to 2029, participated in a dialogue session entitled “Beyond Borders: The role of tourism in economic growth and humanitarian interconnection” which was organized within the “Investopia -Mediterranean” dialogues in Cyprus today, where the session was attended by His Excellency Laura Laura Lahoud, Minister of Tourism Lebanese; His Excellency Kostas Comets, Minister of State for Tourism in Cyprus; His Excellency Olga Kivaliani, Greek Minister of Tourism, and His Excellency Dr. Constantinos Combos, Cypriot Foreign Minister.
The session discussed a set of new tourism policies and strategies aimed at enhancing the growth and diversification of the global economy, and its role in facing geopolitical and economic changes on the regional and international scene.
The session also shed light on the supportive efforts to enhance and develop partnerships between the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the countries of the Mediterranean region, as well as the importance of tourism in supporting the connection of societies to cultural and archaeological heritage and preserving historical monuments and sites.
His Excellency Sheikha Al -Nuwais said: “The tourism sector is not limited to contributing to the growth and diversification of the economies of the world, but also a vital bridge linking various societies and cultures, and contributes to enhancing mutual understanding between people To continue to invent visions and various initiatives to upgrade this vital sector and push it to more advanced and prosperous levels, keeping pace with our future aspirations to achieve sustainable and comprehensive economic and social development.
Her Excellency added: “The Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the countries of the Mediterranean region are distinguished by exceptional tourism ingredients that combine the trauma of history, the richness of cultures and the diversity of multiple civilizations, which gives it a unique character that makes it among the most attractive and demanding tourist destinations in the world, and from this standpoint,” Intensopia – Mediterranean “is a prominent platform to highlight the distinguished tourist capabilities that these regions enjoy and how Business communities benefit from them, as well as exploring promising investment opportunities in various tourism fields. ”
Her Excellency stressed the importance of strengthening regional and international cooperation during the next stage to adopt renewal tourism models that enhance the protection of environmental systems, and contribute to building a better future for sustainable and responsible tourism.
During her participation in the session, her Excellency reviewed her new vision of the future of tourism and aimed at enhancing sustainable economic growth while preserving cultural identity and natural resources, in a way that ensures its continuity for current and future generations, noting that this vision is based on five main axes that include: First promoting responsible tourism that puts in its core the protection of nature, culture, people and the environment, and secondly, building capabilities and empowering young people and women Societies, thirdly, harnessing technology for good to improve the quality of life while preserving privacy, fourth adopting innovative financing solutions and developing tourist models that support sustainable growth, and fifth to consolidate the principles of smart governance through a transparent, responsibility and clarity leadership.
Her Excellency noted that digital shift is an essential element in advancing the growth of the tourism sector and maximizing the benefit of its promising capabilities, as the employment of modern digital tools such as artificial intelligence, electronic payments and advanced infrastructure contributes effectively to developing destinations and tourist attractions according to best practices and international standards.
