Why does the Ministry of Education prevent the entry of phones to the exam halls?

The Ministry of Education prevented phones from entering the exam halls for several major reasons, all of which aim to protect the integrity of the exam process and ensure justice among all students.

5 reasons behind the ban

In an intervention with “Emirates Today”, the educational expert, Amna Al -Mazmi, confirmed that there are 5 main reasons behind the prevention of smartphones from entering the examination halls and punishing the student in the event of his seizure in his possession, which is:

Fraud prevented

She said that the most prominent five reasons “prevent academic fraud”, as smartphones allow immediate access to the Internet, correspondence applications, notes, and camera, which makes it an ideal tool for cheating if they are illegally used. Once a button click, the student can communicate with an external person, look for an answer, or depict the examination paper.

Equal opportunities

The second reason is to “ensure equal opportunities” where if a student is allowed to use his phone inside the hall – even if on the pretext of the “clock” or “calculator” – this is evaluated by the principle of justice, because not all students have the same type or level of devices, and some may take advantage of advantages that are not available to others.

Reducing jamming

She stated that the third reason focused on “reducing interference and anxiety”, as the presence of the phone itself – even without its use – may cause tension or distraction for some students, whether through unexpected notifications, or just thinking about its use later, and the exam environment must be calm and free of dispersion.

Leakage

She explained that the fourth reason lies in “preventing the leakage of exams” as in some cases, the phone is used to photograph and publish the question paper on social media, which leads to leaking exams and damage to the educational institution’s reputation, and causes the exams and confusion of all.

Culture of discipline

She added that strengthening the culture of discipline and responsibility constitutes the fifth reason, as the prohibition is established in the minds of students that the exam is a space for self -reliance, and it enhances academic values such as honesty, integrity and self -discipline, which are skills and behaviors that extend their impact after school.

Organizational

The educational expert, Amna Al -Mazmi, stressed that the prevention of phones is not a targeting of technology, but rather an organizational procedure that aims to protect justice and the credibility of evaluation, and ensure that the real students ’capabilities are measured, not what can be obtained via a screen.
